LEVEL 5: Sao Phao 10 Month,Explanations

BACK TO PARALLEL MAIN PAGE

As of April 2015, this page was only a stub. Eventually it wil have pictures and commentary. "10 Month" refers to an annual ceremony and festival that is conducted in the province of Nakorn Sri Thammarat in Southern Thailand, and in a few other places as well. It is done in the tenth month, hence the name. In Thai, it is "Ngan Dyan Sip". The ceremony differs in villages and towns. In towns, it is more of a party, like Mardi Gras. In villages, it contains a large fun feeding ceremony that ties the ancestors to children, which is what, I think, it was originally all about. The fun at the feeding, and happy connection of young and old, is what gave the whole celebration its feeling of a party.
