EXPLANATIONS PAGE

As of February 2015, this page was a stub. Many people have written about Thai religion, especially Thai Buddhism, and so I don't have much to add. I got interested in ideal and practiced Buddhism from living in Thailand, and I got interested in various aspects of popular religion based on Buddhism. As it turns out, I am not very broadminded. I don't like Thai superstition any more than I like American superstition, so I don't intend to write about fortune tellers ("moh duu") or amulets. I want to think about basic presupposition that Thai people take to interactions with all aspects of the world, including natural, personal, social, and supernatural - if Thai people even think in those categories. If I get anywhere, I might put something here.

On other pages, I mentioned that I enjoyed Thai movies, TV, novels, comic books, etc. I will write about that as much as I can for the appropriate pages, and put links to there and from there. A huge amount of work has been done on Thai pop culture since I first go interested in it in the early 1980s. Unfortunately, I can't access that work in my current situation, so I apologize for my ignorance.
