Level 3: Mike Papers Published, Explanations

BACK TO PARALLEL MAIN PAGE

This page holds documents that were published (other than self-published books). After 2000, while at Auburn University, I did not publish anything as the principal investigagor or author except the books. This page includes papers papers to which I contributed much but was not principal invesigator or author. I do not include minor work. I include two large reports that were done for private contractors because to create such a report is equivalent to publication. I do not include several minor reports for private research. Items that are underlined and highlighted have direct links here (onsite) to the documents.

The documents on land use (2006) and energy use in catfish production (2008) set up the work on the carbon footprint of catfish production (2010) although they were not all part of the same project or grant.

The document on water bodies in Alabama (2012) was based on a GIS analysis. The idea originated with Claude Boyd and Philip Chaney of Auburn University. I did all the GIS work and wrote a couple of early drafts. I like this work. Most GIS-based surveys of land use and land type underestimate small water bodies. This work is a more accurate of water because it focuses entirely on water. It is especially accurate for small water bodies, that is ponds, that are overlooked by larger surveys and surveys that identify multiple land use or multiple land types. Donn Rodekhor of Auburn University gave me a lot of technical advice; he practically taught me GIS. Nathan (last name forgotten) did much of the ground truth checking around Lee County, under my direction; he did an excellent job.
